Tracing Memory

Difficult topic. Its introduced based on the notion of blade runner. Now, I’ve not seen blade runner, but I ordered it off amazon. And I’ve just read the wiki plot. Didn’t help.

Idea One.

My memory works in roundabout fashions. I can go on making associations to one thing, till all of a sudden i’ve digressed and i don’t quite know what I was on about. On  the other hand, it goes back to the hypnotherapy malarkey. Relax the whole body slowly. Slowly slowly. And let a nice lady talk to you in a higher pitched voice, whilst you reveal yourself to her. Frankly, quite frightening.

I like the idea of going off on the hypnotherapy tangent. I don’t know how it’d work though. The way the therapy majig worked was you get a memory. And you follow it. Literally trace it. And associate and trace and associate and trace. She was after repressed shit. Nothing get repressed. So yeah. A string of memories, that, however disconnected they are, are actually very close. Very very close together.

Idea Two.

Revisiting old places. But with new eyes. So the bridge by the river [where else would a bridge be...], Lion Yard picnics. Solar solar. Borders top floor. Cherry Hinton Hall swimming pool. Fulbourn Nature Reserve. Newnham Park. Starbucks Market Street.

There’s tonnes.

Idea Three. [Not my own].

The Science of Sleep. Michel Gondry. He also did Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. That’s what I’m after. The tangibility of a memory, and the effect of altering it; in a sense, the effect of the butterfly. So that one could be interesting. Although I’m not altogether too sure how to show the change a memory can have on the present. From a personal aspect, I suppose I could do a “so what would I be like if this didn’t happen to me”. Although that’s far too personal and too much scope for me to be branded a freak. Maybe I’ll ignore that one. Some things want doors shut on them.

Although, if I was to do the effect of altering a memory, I could do some nifty exhibition methods. One of them [so I suppose Idea  Four], is using plastic plates and projecting or reflecting.

Idea Five: Reincarnation.

So yeah. Don’t ask me exactly how this idea works. It was written down in my sketchpad. So all I can think is the way past actions, and how we remember them, can affect the reincarnation process. Yeah. No sense. I know.

Idea Six.

Deja vu. Jamais vu [creating a fake world/past]. Presque vu [sensation of being on the brink of an epiphany].

Once again, not altogether too sure how this idea would manifest into something tangible. But the idea of it came from [wait for it]... Heroes. This reminds me of year 12 again. But yeah. The idea behind that is that Sylar is imprisoned in Nathan’s body. But when he is released, he has no memories, but touching, feeling, seeing, hearing, reminds him of past actions. Mainly, Nathan’s. Way uncool.

This idea isn’t pure fantasy though. It happens to everyone. But not in the amnesiac sense. I mean, every now and again, I smell something that takes me right back. I think the weirdest one is men’s perfume. Different sorts can take you back. Different smells of people. Perfume. Disinfectant. Once again, the connection would be difficult to exhibit, but that’s not really the point. I mean, a little bit of mystery did us all good, right?

Idea Six: Sleep.

If I still had my old blog up, there is this fantastically detailed entry on what I called the Melting Malteaser Moment. That bit in half conscious state, in between dreams. When you can control what you think. But as opposed to lucid dreaming, it’s fun. It’s nice and you’re floating .

Don’t ask about tangibility. I’m unsure.

And that's me done. Least it makes sense in the noggin. Sort of.
